Recent focus on Indigenous issues and reconciliation initiatives in Canada has critically heightened the demand for skilled leadership and qualified individuals with financial and business expertise to work within First Nations, Inuit and Métis communities and organizations. This has created a multitude of opportunities for Indigenous students who may be passionate to contribute to strengthening financial management, leadership and sustainability within their communities and related organizations. However, in the face of this high demand for expertise, the number of Indigenous people choosing to pursue accounting and financial management careers has not kept pace. There is now a serious shortage of Indigenous students choosing to pursue these opportunities.
